RE: Factory Locking Diff after the fact

Hello all,

I am still enjoying the truck and don't see myself ever going back to a car. Not one bit of regret.

I have a question, Is it possible for the dealer to put in a G80 rear end into my 2wd Sierra. And if so, if they put it in does it keep the warranty in tact? Also, if anyone has done this, what was the cost? I tried the search feature but didn't see this exact topic addressed. Thanks in advance for the information.

The factory G80 locking differential is a stronger unit than the G86 limited slip unit, and more functional, but it is not as strong as some aftermarket units. Besides, the dealer will take you for a ride on labor if they do it. I would go with a Detroit Locker or other similar locking unit. They're far more reliable and labor from an outside shop won't be as expensive as the dealer. A Detroit Locker and install labor should set you back about $400-500 depending on which unit you get. :smash:
