My personal experience with Predator tuing vs. Wes

Ok, first off. I am impressed with the Westers PCM. I asked Lyndon for the 92 octane tuning. Same as the Predator. There is a definate gain over the Predator. I ran it a total of 22 miles this evening and a lot of it was WOT runs. Like I said previously, I don’t have any tracks near me. All I have is little places where I can run some personal tests. So here is a run down on what I got so far out of the Westers vs Predator. This is on a straight stretch of road in a rural area. Its not perfectly flat, but it’s as close as I could get. These are my 0-60 times with another person in the truck running the stop watch over my shoulder.

Test- Predator- Westers

Run 1- 9.49- 8.97

Run 2- 9.49- 8.95

Run 3- 9.53- 8.94

I then went for a little drive varying the throttle from cruise to wide open. I then went back to the same spot I did my 0-60 runs before and ran them again.

Run 1 was 8.49

Run 2 was 8.43

Run 3 was 8.47

So just by driving it a little more it seemed to make better times. If you look now, those times are one full second faster than any of the best Predator runs.

I also ran a few mph test. Again, nothing as far as official track times. Just mph differences from point A to point B. Three different places to mix it up a little.

Test- Predator- Westers

Run 1- 64mph- 66mph

Run 2- 73mph- 76mph

Run 3- 83mph- 87mph

Again the Westers is better. So………..from a very satisified Predator user, I am impressed with the Westers so far. If it hold true that it will get better after some more miles. Then I cant wait to see what it has in store. Now keep in mind that this is a comparison with the Predator. Not over stock tuning!! Hope this all made sense. Any questions or comments, let them fly.

Was that the stock Preditor tune? You can get the people at Preditor to give you a custom tune to your mods, that can make a big difference over the stock Preditor tune.

I am going to guess that you were using the 1.03 code in the predator. While the predator is great right out of the shoot, there have been some significant updates to the code since the predator was released. The 1.03 code had some small items in it that needed to be corrected. I as well as a few others around the US have been working with Johan at Diablo Sport and have been able to correct most of these items. I would have liked to see the comparison between the two units with the latest predator corrections.

Thanks for the comparison.

Question for BADHD:

I'm assuming your comparison was with the same or identical truck(s), is that correct? Were the comparisons performed on the same day?

What truck or trucks did you use in your comparison, i.e. (both 2001? or 2002? or 1996?, both dual cabs?, or extra cabs? or single cabs? with 5.3L?, 6.0L?, 8.1L? Diesel?... If performed with the same truck, please explain how you could do this?

There's a lot of info missing. I appreciate the trouble you went through to post your thread, but numbers without any other info is pretty pointless don't you think?

Where both truck-runs conducted under the same atmosphereic conditions? Are you aware that temperature and/or humidity differentials can have a substantial impact on engine performance?

I ran my truck. A 2001 Silverado 2500HD, 6.0, auto, 4x4 with a 6" lift and 315/75/16 tires.

The first tests were ran with the Predator in the stock ECM. The second tests were ran with the Westers. Thes test were ran under same conditions, same places, same fuel, same driver, same weight.......same everything. In fact they were ran within 20 minutes of each other. All I did was swap ECM's and took off.

P.S. Most of the info you asked for was in my sig.....if you have any other questions, let me know.

This topic has been discussed a million time over on the other forum...FullsizeChevy.com. I have to believe that the Predator does not even come close to the Westers tune program, even with their newest upgrades. Heck, Predator wasnt even interested in running a comparison between their product and several others, including Westers. Why is that? I think because they know they can't compete. Sorry Predator owners.

Hey, Gang. Couple questions, please :

Ballpark- whats the Westers cost ?? Link ??

I'd like to do a few mods soon- t-body bypass, electric fan, Volant cold air, exhuast and cpu. Probably in that order, but looking for some experienced suggestions :puke: .

Thanks.

Looks like the price for the 03 programming is $595. You can find the price list by visiting this link:

In regards to the order of your upgrades, after you complete your punchlist you can have them appropriately tune the PCM for those upgrades. If not mistaken you get FREE upgrades for life, so you can either wait until everything is added or buy the PCM first and then do your upgrades and update it as you go.

I have yet to use one, but almost everyone I encounter only has the best of things to say about Wester's. By far they are the preferred choice, and seem to offer the most performance gains of the others. That is who I will go with when it comes time.

Good luck!
