AVALANCHE "Bench seat!"

Well I'm going to buy an Avalanche(Pretty sure)- I want a 1500 WBH- Z71-cloth. My dealer did a 200 mile search & found 10! Great. All of them have BENCH SEATS! A bench? 40/20/40. I have never sat in one with a bench or seen one in a AV so I 'm taking a long drive to one of those dealers to sit in her. Anyone have a AV w/a BENCH? Pictures?

A 40/20/40 Custom Cloth bench seat is the standard seat in the Av. It is pretty much the same as the bench seat in a Silverado LS, but it has the diamond-pattern inserts that are found on the Av bucket seats.

I have a cloth front bench in my '02 Av. It's really more like two wide buckets and a narrow fixed middle cushion with a fold-down seatback / armrest / storage bin. I find it to be more comfortable than the optional buckets. When I have the midgate open for long loads, I can still carry 3 people - not very comfortably, though. I also like having the center floor open and the big center armrest / storage bin. My only problem is that after two years, one of the hinges on the armrest / storage bin lid has cracked and unless I replace it, one of these days it's gonna catapult itself into the rear seat.

Oh, if you want a power passenger seat, it is probably still an option. Mine only has power on the driver's side.

Most of the Av's that I have seen some through the local dealer here lately have had the cloth split bench, both 4x4's and Z-71's.

Greg- Are you happy with the AV? Are you happy that you got the Bench & not buckets?

I've been pleased with the Av and with the bench over the buckets. I recently bought a bedslide from Durakon that makes it a lot easier to unload after shopping. However, the tub on the slide interferes with long loads witht the midgate open.

The only negative I've had with the Av in about 52K miles is lousy rear visability. Once I no longer need a fullsize rear seat in a couple of years, I'll probably go back to an extended cab pickup.

I hope the bench in the Av is not the same one that's in my 99 Silverado, because I think it's the most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat in.

It's WAY too firm and fatiguing. On the other hand, I've also been told that my ass is real flat so it could be due to lack of natural padding. Someone a bit more endowed in the ass region might not find them uncomfortable at all.

All of the cloth AV's will have a bench. I've got 51,000 miles in my '02 Z-66 cloth bench and I've found it more comfortable than my 99 GMC Sierra leather buckets.
