Torque converter vendor problems

My torque converter failed  on my 2015 GMC 1500 Sierra 5.3 L (85,000 miles) while on a family vacation 12 hour drive. We stayed two nights in a hotel ($260) and rented a truck ($580) to finish the trip while the dealer repaired the tranny. Five days later we returned to the city where we had broken down to pick up the truck. Fortunately it was still under warranty. Apparently once the torque converter failed parts were damaged causing debris in the fluid so additional parts needed replacement. The tech explained that the 2014 -2017 6 to 8 speed transmissions have these problems due to  poor vendor quality on their torque convertors. He explained that since there is no other options he replaced the parts that were manufactured by the same vendor indicating it is possible for the failure to recur after it is out of warranty. In 2018 GMC changed vendors for the the 6-8 speed torque convertors. On a side note, I had the truck in my dealer here in Ohio two weeks prior for an oil change and inspection. One of the recommendation was that the transmission flush would be coming due soon.
