Hi, y'all. Found this place thru PUTC....very nice. This seems a much different place :D !!

I've had my truck for about a month now, eating-up that steering  !!! Get funny looks everywhere :(:D !!! I love it !!! (but watch that tail-swing in tight areas :puke: !! My wife missed our mailbox by less than an inch- the first day :puke: !!!)

Well, this is the introduction area, I reckon.... 35yo, married, 13yo Honor-Roll step-daughter I've been raising for 10 years, and my best-bud, Nicholas; turned two last Friday :D . Motorcyclist for 20+ years, gearhead for about...34 :D !!! (And my boy is gonna one-up me :(:D:puke: !!!) Anyway....

Got a couple quick questions maybe y'all can help me with :

What is 1/2 ton about a 1500HD ?? Is that why I heard it's discontinued for 04 ??

What's the difference in bolt-over and complete replacement aftermarket grilles ?? Are bolt-overs kinda the cheap route ?? Can you tell visually ??

I heard stereo replacement is a nightmare- can anyone shed any light here ?? If replacing the head-unit isn't an option, can I attach amps to the stock unit and replace the speakers ??

And what about integrating a video for the back seaters (my kids :flag: ) ?? Better to make that a stand-alone system ??

Thanks in advance. Sorry if some of this has already been covered.... I have read-up...some :(:D !!! Thanks, y'all.

Welcome Eric! Hope you enjoy what you see now......cause it'll only get better. :puke:

That's a real nice family you have. I'm sure you're proud! :eek::puke:

Sorry that I can't be much assistance, but others will, so don't worry. You'll get the info you need, and then some.

Once again, welcome!

PS: Try to go easy on the smilies. :puke:

Welcome, this place is so much better than PUTC. Anyway, do you want the screen to be in a headrest or mounted to the ceiling. You can buy the flip down ones where the kids have cordless headphones, that way you can listen to music. About your half-ton question. GM produced the 1500HD as a way to compete with the SuperCrew in my opinion, even though we all know it's just a rebadged 2500HD. For 2004, the 1500HD will become the 2500LD crew cab, confusing I know. Then they will produce a true 1500 crew cab with the 5.3 and a 5'5'' bed. Way they do this when they already have a 1500 crew cab(the Avalanche), I don't know. Sorry I couldn't answer more questions.

Heh-heh.. :sigh:

Thanks for the info and nice welcome, y'all.

Truckman, I kinda like the drop-downs for the size, but not sure how I'd like taking a trip with no rearview mirror ?? Hmmm.... Know how big of a headrest monitor is available ??

Hoping someone can shed some light on the grille-issue :) ....

Thanks, gang.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
