Is it Possible to Access DTC's?

I just purchased a 2003 Silverado. It has a Driver Information Center (DIC) very similar to my 1999 Corvette. I have the steering wheel controls for the radio and options.

In the Corvette I can access the Diagnostic Trouble Codes on the DIC by pushing a combination of the control buttons. Is this feature available on the 2003 Silverado, or is a Scan Tool required?

Unless you have an SES light, there should be no DTC's set.

If'n there were, I'd wheel that '03 right over to the dealer.

OnStar can do it for you too...if you got that option.

Too bad GM did not include the onboard reader on the trucks, like in the Corvette.

If they can read them via OnStar - I'd think the onboard reader is there in some fashion, even if it is just a string of bits and bytes sent over the phone to Onstar and then it gets decoded there - I'd think the computer could do the same and display it on the DIC.
