So does this mean that my 2003 1500HD 6.0 is the same thing as a 2500 (non HD)

NO, your 1500HD has 8-lug wheels while the 2500 non-HD has 6-lug. The axles are actually lighter on the 2500. Hopefully they are moving things around to straighten up the name scheme to actually reflect size.

Sorry, since 2001 all 2500's (non-HD) are 8600 lb GVWR and have 8-lug wheels. For 2000 and prior, which is before the HD line came out, there were both 2500 (light duty) and 2500 (heavy duty) models with 7200 and 8600 lbs GVWR respectively. The 7200lb version had the 6-lug wheels, the 8600 lbs have 8-lug.

It's sad to see yet another "Truck" retired from the truck fleet to be replaced by yet another big heavy sports car or Van with 4 wheel drive...

Go GM catering to Yuppie... If GM continues things this way in 5 years or so I'll be a die hard Ford Dodge man..

My guess would be somewhere in the area of 7500 lbs. It depends a lot on your gearing though. With 4.10s you might be able to tow little over 8000 lbs, with gears as high as 3.42s you might only be able to tow about 6500 lbs.

So what exactly is being discontinued? 2500 HD 4x4 ext. cab? If someone answers yes to this i'm gonna have to shoot someone at GM. I don't want four d**n doors, if I wanted a bus, i'd buy a suburban. Remember when most trucks were just regular cabs?
