C0387 Unable to Complete Shift

Hello,

I've had a Service 4X4 message for a week now and I believe I'm stuck in 4HI.

1. I replaced the Switch, it correctly showed 4HI but wouldn't switch.

2. I replaced the TCCM, I'm not sure I did the Reset steps correctly, but I got 3 Transfer Case Control Module Trouble Codes:

     1. C0321 Status: HISTORY • Transfer case lock circuit malfunction
     2. C0569 Status: CURRENT/HISTORY/MIL • Check report for description.
     3. C0387 Status: CURRENT/HISTORY/MIL • Unable to complete shift

3. I replaced the Transfer Case Motor and after clearing the codes I get C0387 Unable to Complete Shift.  I put my old TCCM back in and still no good...  I don't get lights on the switch.

My question: Is the procedure below correct?  How can I switch the transmission to Neutral with the key in the OFF position?  What position does the Switch need to be in when I turn the key 2 clicks to Accessory position?

Transfer case clutch reset procedure

1. The key must be in the OFF position for at least 30 seconds.

2. Engage parking brake.

3. Place transmission in Neutral.

4. Turn the key to the ACCESSORY position

5. Turn the transfer case shift control switch (TCSCS) to the 2WD HI position for at least 5 seconds.

6. Turn the TCSCS clockwise past the 4WD LO position to the neutral request position and hold for at least 30 seconds.

7. An audible noise from the transfer case encoder motor should occur indicating asuccessful learn procedure.

This procedure applies to other vehicles with the NQH MP3023/4 Transfer Case.

If you are hung up on the not being able to shift into neutral with the key in off position, insert the key, and turn it one click towards start, press the brake pedal hard(there will not be any assist) shift into neutral.  You also have the option of just leaving it in neutral when you shut the engine off.

Some times instructions are written by people that don't actually drive the vehicles they are writing about.

Thanks. I tried all that before but you can’t turn the key all the way off when in neutral. When I clear the code, I hear the transfer case motor click but the Service 4X4 light comes right back on C0387 Unable to Shift. When I step thru the Reset procedure above, I don’t hear any clicks in the motor. So I feel like I’m not resetting correctly.

Any ideas???
