Mobile one filter

Plan on switching to Mobile one next change. Can I continue to use my AC Delco filters or is it highly recommended to use Mobile one oil filters instead?

I'm no expert but I would say the AC Delco filter would be just fine. I run Moble 1 oil use either a Moble 1 or K&N oil filter. I figure since I spend that much money on oil I might as well spend the extra 10 bucks on a quality filter.

I have used Mobile1 oil and oil filter (M1-201) and K&N air filer in my '99 Z-71 Classic since I bought it. It has around 99,400 miles on it and all I have done is change the oil at 5k intervals. Infact, besides replacing the alternator and fuel filter once, the ONLY thing I have done is change the oil and clean the air filter - still running the original plugs, wires, etc...

Thanks for the input. Someone told me at AutoZone that the reason the Mobile One filters were so expensive was that they were designed to last the 5K+ miles between changes with synthetics. I know AC Delco filters are high quality, but didn't know if they were designed to go that long while still performing!! Are the K&N oil filters of better quality than most others?

I've been using the mobiel 1 filters since I bought my truck. I've only used 1 other type of filter and that is a Fram one time when the local parts store was out of the Mobile 1 ones.

Just sold my 96 Tahoe 5.7L to my son this spring. Used Mobil 1 with AC Delco filters exclusively since new. Oil change intervals were ranged from 3K to 4K, but a few times they went to 5K. The truck had 263,000 when the kid bought it. It's now at 285,000 and going strong. Doesn't burn anything between changes. Only engine work was to replace the intake gasket.

I am doing the same thing on my new 03 Sierra 6.0L

By the way for everyone concerned about knocks and funny noises coming out of the motor, the Tahoe had a cold start knock from day one. I got tired of the dealer telling me it was normal, so I just kept driving it. As it approaches 300,000 for my son, I can't see where the knock (which is still there) is a problem.

Do what you want, but I would spend the money on the Mobil 1 oil, but use the AC filter.

The question is CAN you use an AC Delco filter with Mobil 1 and the answer is "yes". It will work just as well with Mobil 1 as any other oil. If you are changing oil at 5000 miles or less then it will hold the contaminants without bypassing. If you intend on going farther than 5000 miles then the Amsoil flter will last longer. You will need to sample the oil, also, if you go longer than 5000 mile intervals.

I have had very good luck with the Bosch filters I get at Autozone.

I used to run the Mobil 1 filters in my old Trans Am, and they are definatley a better quality filter than Fram or whoever else is in the lineup. I noticed a visible difference in how clean my oil looked after I started using them, along with Mobil 1 5W30 ...

I got tired of paying $12 a filter however, and read an article about how the Bosch filter was actually manufactured by Wix, the same company who makes the Mobil 1 filter, and how it used a "synthetic" filter element instead of a paper one, just like the Mobil 1 did.

So, I went ahead and tried a couple of them and had just as good of results with the Bosch .... So I stuck with them for $6 cheaper.

The AC filter will work just fine. Unless you feel better using the Mobil 1 filter and have the cash then go with it. Wayne2 summed it up well. Anything over 5 to 7k you might want to use the Mobil 1 or AMSOIL SDF oil filter. I have gone up to 12k on my AMSOIL with no problems. I also have done used oil analysis to make sure all is well and has been so far.

So if your going with up to 5k oil changes and want to save some extra cash for those modifications to your truck, go with the AC oil filter. But if money is no object and you feel better about the Mobil 1 filter then go that route. Either way you will be fine.

Also if you like to have stuff UPS'ed to you then you can go with the AMSOIL SDF filter, unless you can find it locally, which is possible depending on where you live.
