2008 Sierra SLT Power Fold Mirrors

For starters, I have little automotive expertise. I know how to do things once I have observed how to do it. In other words, I don’t know about things but I know how to do things.

I bought a 2008 Sierra SLT in May of 2018. The truck includes power folding mirrors although the passenger side mirror has not folded in the time that I have owned the truck. I mentioned this to the service advisor who informed me that this was due to a failed mirror actuator. Ordinarily, this is not even something I would bother with fixing although I recently moved into an urban apartment complex and I would like to be able to fold the mirrors on both sides in.

At some point I intend on taking action that allows me to be able to fold in the mirrors on both sides. Taking the truck to the dealership would be a last resort when it comes to getting this fixed. I have a service facility that I trust but I would rather not spend the money. In terms of fixing it myself, I have two options: replace the actuator or replace the mirror. I have never been a huge fan of the mirrors that the truck came with and I have previously considered replacing them. In terms of cost, replacing both mirrors would obviously be the more expensive option but this would kill two birds with one stone.

In terms of difficulty, would it be easier to replace an actuator or an entire mirror? What would I need to replace just the actuator?
