2018 Sierra recovery hooks install.

I have a 2018 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLE and I was wanting to add the recovery hooks on the from for no other reason than the fact it's only 2wd. So, I purchased a set of GM recovery hooks and the replacement trim for the item delete trim. I had my truck in for as faulty headlight and had asked them to install them for me since they were going to remove the grille to replace the headlight assembly. I was told that they couldn't install them because it was a safety issue for my year model and that I should try to return the hooks.

 

Does anyone know anything about a safety issue installing these recovery hooks on the 2018 Sierra SLE?

 

I know there was talk about using upgraded bolts or not to reuse existing bolts. However,  since the hooks came from the GM parts warehouse the factory bolts were included. Thanks for your time and effort in this matter.

IMO, they don’t wanna do it. Probably a liability issue for them, if you get stuck and get pulled and something goes wrong. I have a 17, bought OEM take off’s from EBay for $39. No hardware included, I bought $30 of grade 8 hardware. Install took all of 45 minutes as I had to cut the holes in the lower bumper, wasn’t paying $170 for a piece of plastic that looks the exact same as my freshly cut piece.

I appreciate it. Them not wanting to install the hooks was the first thing that crossed my mind too. I just wanted to make sure it was a defective design. Though if it was a design defect there would be a lot of recalls.
