0-60 in general?

Okay, I've seen magazine times, and I've seen other times. Which is more accurate?

Example:

Motor Trend:

Silverado 5.3 Auto 2WD 7.8

Tundra 4.7 2WD 8.0

Here, in another post I saw:

Silverado 5.3 4WD 9.6

Tundra 4.7 4WD 9.4

Are these times a little too different, or does a 4x4 REALLY take that much longer? Doesn't add up to me.  MY truck, midly modified, hit 60 in 9.5, under partial throttle to 20, then full throttle, while taking in a rather big bump in the process.

My main question is if magazine times should be ignored.

I'm new here(but have been looking around a lot), but known as 90 Silverado at chevytalk, 90 Silvverado 350-M at GM-TruckFourms.com, and 90 Modified Silverado at the vmag forums.

Welcome to the forum.  The 0-60 times posted would be pretty dependent on how the vehicle was launched and the rear end gearing of the particular truck.  The 4wd will be roughly a second slower due to carrying about 500 lbs more weight in the form of front axle and transfer case.  The standard F'stones on the 4wd would tend to not have as much grip when launched.  That might account for the difference.  Some of the other guys here may offer a bit more insight.

Its all about the equipment used to test vehicles.  Just about all magazines are different, with some (like 4Wheeler) are ridiculously slow.  Obviously the bigger name mags, like Car And Driver and MotorTrend, will have numbers comparable with factory specs.

P.S. Have yall seen the latest MotorTrend where the TrailBlazer went from 0-60 in 7.74...thats smokin!  No Explorer can touch that!  Cant wait to see what the Buick version of the TrailBlazer with the 5.3 is going to run!

Truck Trend did a 1/2t comparison last summer and the Silverado 5.3 beat all three other 1/2 tons fairly easily.

0-60 empty/1000lb load

Silverado 7.79/9.34

Tundra    8.06/9.86

1/4 mile empty/1000lb load

Silverado 15.83/16.88

Tundra    16.16/17.34

I don't have the magazine for the Ford and Dodge but it's at their website.  Ford was third and Dodge was last (as usual).  Edmunds.com also did 2000 model fullsize shootout with similar results:Edmunds 2000 Pickup Comparison...

Yeah, the 4wd does add some weight that takes a penalty.  Could you launch in 4wd hi to avoid tire spin and then shift back out without hurting the times?
