check engine light after plug wire popped off

Hey all , I had a plug wire pop off, which I read on this forum can happen on occasion. My question is , the check engine light stayed on after I reattached. Will it eventually reset itself or do I need to take it in? Once I reattached it the truck quit missing and is running and idling smoothly, but after several starts and stops the engine light remains.

It will take up to 30 restart cycles to clear the code if it was just for the misfire

where did you read that plug wires just pop off on their own? I would expect any plug wire coming off on it's own is either physically damaged or wasn't pushed on all the way...

Why did it pop off ? those a hard enough to get off when you need them off doesn't make sense the light will eventually go out but I like the clear codes right aways to make sure that's the problem

I read on this forum that in certain model years they pop off after driving rough terrain. In my case it was a service tech who most likely didnt get it on all the way.

A week ago my check engine flashed for 30 seconds and then went out,so I took it to chevy dealer and they found it was missing on #5 which they discovered had some corrosion on the wire which they cleaned up and after that it quit showing a miss, there was no other codes. Truck ran fine for 1 week then it started missing again,and the engine light flashed for 30 seconds,then went out and then a few minutes later came on solid. I could hear the ticking at idle under the hood so I checked plug wires and discovered one them barely attached and arching out. When I went to tighten that one it popped right off as if it was barely on. Im assuming it was a miscue by the tech the week before.
