ECM reprogramming by dealer

Recommended Posts

Hi I have a 2018 Canyon diesel that I brought to the dealer with engine light on, got charged $158 to scan and reprogram my ECM. My usual dealer told me that never had to do that and I'm wandering if I got scammed? When I ask why it was needed they told me that there was a corrupt file? I then pointed out that only GM put files in my truck but they insisted that I pay anyway? Can anybody shed some light?

I’d think that would be under warranty still. I have a 2017 2.8 Duramax and I’ve never had to reprogram it.

Did you take a lightening strike?

You can contact the Zone dealer and ask for a full refund.

Ask them to show you the defective parts....

I should say.. many dealers charge a diagnostic fee for pulling the code. You didn’t mention that.

I bought a hand held code puller and it can reset the error codes, so you can clear it if it makes sense. I’d clear loose gas cap and other non-problem codes.
