Engine/Tranny Swap ECU Question

I am considering buying a 2009 Yukon XL with a 5.3 (LC9) and a 6L80.  Both the engine and transmission are making noises and the seller says they will need to be replaced.  I have a 2009 Sierra with a 5.3 (LH6) and a 6l80 with 50,000 kms (30,000 mi) that has frame damage and cant be registered.  My plan would be to put the engine/tranny out of the sierra and put them into the Yukon.  As I have a HP Tuners model/year licence for a  2009 Sierra and was wondering if I can use the PCM/ECM/ECU (what ever they are called) from the Sierra into the Yukon do do I need to use the Yukon computer?

You will need to use the yukon computer to keep the problems to a minimum. There may be several differences between calibrations for body codes, BCM functions, cluster stuff and even fuel pump controls.

 

If you swap the complete drivetrains over you will still be required to take the truck to a dealership to have the PCM/TCM flashed with the yukon's stock calibration again. The reason for this is because the Sierra's 6L80e TCM calibration is not the same as the yukons 6L80e TCM and it will not jive correctly.

 

And no, you can't fully flash this stuff with HP Tuners. A GM tool must be used first. Then you can license the yukon's file again to do whatever you want after that.
