the right front door speaker has gone bad [under warranty].do the factory speakers go bad alot ? should the dealer replace all the speakers or will they just replace the bad one?my thought if one is bad they all will be soon .after warrantys out what speakers should i think about?this is in a2002 silverado

The factory speakers are usually cheaply made of paper. You might want to start looking into a good aftermarket set. Try Crutchfield, they offer a wide range of speakers for your application, and make sure to get the "component" set, which includes the mid bass speaker, tweeter, and crossover unit (which separates the frequencies and sends them to the corresponding speaker/tweeter). If you want to upgrade to anything that Crutchfield offers, and only spend slightly more $$, look into a component set from Image Dynamics ($300). This is a high quality set without the high quality price tag, most will cost over $500. The links are below. Good luck.

The driver side front speaker in my '02 Tahoe went bad too. Unfortunately, it was intermittant and it took three trips to the dealer for them to 'hear' the problem. They finally replaced just the one speaker.

I'll probably move to aftermarket speakers soon.

If you replace them with aftermarket speakers....You will be amazed at how crappy the stockers were, and wonder how you ever listened to them.

I have MB Quart components in the front, and Infiniti plates in the rear doors.

You have to take the whole door panel off, it's not hard, there are only like 3 screws holding it on.

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum. My right front door speaker has gone too, and it is driving me up the wall! Where are the 3 screws to get the door panel off? I only see one by the door handle. I'm sure there are two more but they must be covered up with trim or something. I've always used Crutchfield to reasearch stuff I buy, but they are full price retail. Once you identify the product you need/want, there are several online vendors that are much cheaper. I just upgraded the stereo in the boat, now I guess the truck feels neglected. I'm partial to the Infinity Kappa's.

you can get the speaker grill off without taking the door panel off.. just pry around the corners.. I just put some silicon on the flaps of the grill when I push it back into the door...

BUT to replace the speakers you have to remove the door anyways lol so theres a screw under the grab handles and one under the window control button panel (it snaps off), then pull the plastic panel off thats where the mirrors are and the panel surrounding the door handle then pull up and out on the door panel itself, finally unhook the door light and speakers and your done.

Stay away from crutchfield.. they have rediculous prices on their products which you will find tons cheaper on other online sites.

For a complete listing of online audio shops, check out this link. The best thing to do is find what you are looking for, and find the lowest price, and then try to get the more reliable shops to match the price. I did that with the Image Dynamics component set I am going to order. I found it for like $50 cheaper from Mainstreetaudio.com and then had SoundDepot.com (the only authorized online retailer for Image Dynamics, so it comes with the full warranty). Try that to get a better price. Anyways, enough BS-ing, here is the link:

As for what I put in thier place....Sony Xplod 6.5" componet set.

Upon visiting their site, they recomend 150Wrms to the speakers.

How will it sound with a stock unit???

What year model truck do you have?

If I had one suggestion in upgrading the stockers, it would be a MB quart set. Top quality along with sound. I have BOSE, so it will stick, mainly due to GM's wiring bullsh*t.
