CB installation

Like I said I am new to this site and to GM...sorry for all the questions. :D:lol:

Has anyone installed a CB in there new 03-04s with SLT package? I am thinking about putting it in the center were the CD changer would go if I had one. Also how did you run the coax? Any ideas would be great, also would be for a Uniden 68 or 78.

I have a CB in my 03 but it sits on the tranny hump.

Get under your truck at the drivers side. You should see a place where the E brake cable runs up to the lever inside. That is rubber and you can run a cb cable through there. Undo trim and lift the carpet enough to get the wire to your CB.

Thank you for the info.. I do not have a tranny hump, I am thinking about putting it were the CD changer would go if I had one.

Most likely I'm going to mount mine to the over head console. I've located units there on previous trucks. I drop the headliner, punch the antenna through the center of the roof and run a short coax toward the windshield. Bring my power and external speaker/PA wires up from below the dash through the drivers pilliar. Reinstall the headliner and mount the CB. It is really been a nice location for visibilty and access to the CB controls. Also it puts the CB speaker in a position that is easy to hear without blasting.

I have also seen them mounted there...Trucks once had alot of space to add extras now with all these great options space is very limited. I still think I am going to try to add ours in the center were the CD changer would go. If you install yours please send me a picture I would like to see the finished product. FYI...you said run a short co-ax....I think you need 16' of co-ax from the CB to the Ant for max efficiency for your radio. Look in to that at a trusted CB shop.

I installed my brake controller just to the left of the counsel, under the dash, and it was a tight fit. If my legs were much longer, I would probably hit it with my knees. I don't know how much larger your CB is, but there is not much "extra" room any place. I would avoid the overhead placement (too dangerous), In a roll-over, the CB may have to be surgically removed  I imagine the CB needs to be "in sight", otherwise you could mount it under the seat? This sounds like a job for a SAWSALL or BFH. :D

Good luck. Send pics if/when it is installed.

Since my wife rolled over our F**D 1.25 times I am very aware of the dangers...two surgeries and close to 600 stiches to her face and head. I last thing I want to do is set up a dangerous environment.

We have a uniden 68 and 78 both are kind of big. I think the best place is going to be were the CD changer would have gone....but I am to chicken to start cuting things up on our 400mile new baby :D

I installed a Handheld Cobra. Mounted the wire jack that it uses to the side of my center console and ran all the wires under the carpet and through the firewall. The handheld CD sits in my Motorola Cell Phole Holder perfectly. I can also put the CB away and there is no sign of it with all the wires hidden.

I've got a real small Uniden CB that I mounted just to the left of the console. Then I moved my brake controller which is quite small too, just to the left of that. I did mount the CB upside down (real handy to look at the channel setting) to keep the cord to the mic as close to the console as possible. I mounted a 3 foot fiberglass antenna in the stake pocket directly behind the cab. The coax comes into the truck through the air vent between the cab and box. I'm 6'3" and don't find it intrusive below the dash. My salesman at the Chevy garage laughed at me about the CB. "What's the antenna for? A CB? With cell phones, they still make them?". Sure works good when travelling with the neighbor or trailering in traffic and there has been an accident, congestion or a traffic backup.
