Exhaust ? Is it possible to get the extra perf.

If you are wanting a "refined/stock" exhaust note under normal driving, no cabin resonance, but want a "refined/power" exhaust note when you get on it, I'd look into a Borla exhaust. Not necessarily an entire Cat back exhaust setup, but a new muffler and tip, using the stock pipes. I did this on my 97 5.7L, brother in laws 99 5.3 Z71, his wife's 02 5.3 Tahoe and I love the sound on all three. He was wanting a flowmaster 70 Series until he heard what mine sounded like. I DID NOT want loudness all the time, if I drive normally, I didn't want the neighbors to wake up. It's deeper than stock, but when I get on it, it sounds amazing. I got a universal Borla Stainless Steel muffler and Borla intercooled tip for about 225$, I welded it in, but a shop can do it for a little $$. I didn't lose any low end torque, and it definitely feels better on the top end. I think alot of that has to do with me keeping the stock pipes in between the muffler and tip. If you go too big after the muffler you will lose backpressure, which will hurt low end power, but will probably help you on the top end. I kept all three exhaust setups a single outlet. Personally, I'd rather have a good low end power band with a better top end, than a decreased low end with an improved top end. Not that I dislike the loud, rough exhaust sounds, but with these vehicles being family vehicles, I don't want to have to yell at the person sitting next to me in the truck. I sure there are others who will chime in here with their's, most here either run Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Both are very good products, but the ones I've heard are louder in the cab than what I wanted. Chris

Sounds like borla is the way to go... I had a Borla setup on my 5.0 Cougar WAY BACK. Quality is there for sure.

Where is the cheapest place to pick up a muffler? Summit?

CHRIS... Was it a certain "series" of Borla muffler or just any old universal?

Thanks for the help guys.

This is a link to Borla's site. The 2.5" in/out is the ones I got, I bought a y pipe for my 97, it's a dual in, but for the Silverado and Tahoe I got a 2.5"in/out, and bought a 3" to 2.5" reducer. Any muffler shop can get/make what you need. The Tahoe has the Turbo XL, while mine and my brother in laws Silverado has the Turbo. The XL is more quiet in the cabin, that's why it's on the Tahoe. Here's the link http://www.borla.com/universal.exhaust/?ca...7204.118.70.171 The cheapest place I have found is Summit, but might try JEGS, here's the link to summit http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?...borla&x=16&y=12 The 2.5" XL is 149.95, the Turbo 2.5" is 110.95$.

JEGS has this: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/Pro...268&prmenbr=361 Product #157-40944 It may be a better fit for your vehicle. I didn't see this size when getting the ones for my Brother in law. If I had to do it over again, I think I might try these. But, I have no experience hearing this muffler. Hope I didn't totally mess you up! The Turbo XL sounds good, so if you want something that you can rely on sounding good, might want to stick with it. Chris

BORLA WARNING! Mine resonated way too much in the cab between 2100 & 2400RPM's. I needed a catback and was told by many to go with Borla. Please believe me when I say that I am not a picky person, but the Borla was just too much to tolerate on highway trips. It sounds great on the outside, though. I finally removed the Borla muffler and replaced it with a free flowing magnaflow-which actually resonates much less. I guess I now have a Borlaflow catback.

If you do not want noise in the cab, stay away from Borla. Borla does sound good but the DRONE in the cab is terrible. hard to carry a conversation qt highway cruise, Corsa is just a little louder at highway cruise than stock, but, hit the gas and it awakens the beast

Yup It's pricey, but worh it,

This is the system I have on my 5.7 camaro, and the same is going on my Silverado.

As contrasted to the car Corsa products, Corsa sounds more like ratty East-Texas Bubba straight pipes when you get down on the acclerator. Very quiet at cruise and no resonation. But the rats awake when you floor the accelerator.

I haven't heard one in person, but I kind of got the feeling they would be "ratty" or raspy upon acceleration as well. For those that haven't heard the pipes, here is a direct link to the Corsa system on a 5.3 Silverado:

Personally I like that deep "I'm gonna rip your head off" sound myself. Probably not the best for cab resonance, but hard to beat in my opinion. Just never cared for the raspy sounds too much.
