Silverado SS

Hello Guys, I'm looking to purchase a new SS, however it may not be for a while. My questions is.... will the SS production stop with the 04 model, or will it contine to 05?

p.s - it's nice to be back on the forum after a 2 year absence.... I traded my 2000 Z71 LT for a car (big mistake) and haven't had a reason to be on here.

I have a new '03 SS and have not heard anything about SS production stopping after '04. In fact, the Trailblazer SS is coming out as an '06 model, and I think we can expect an SS Colorado at some point to compete with the R/T. If that is any indication, SS Silverado production should continue too.

I would not put off your purchase, if possible, in light of the current market. There are plenty of new '03s out there that can be snatched up for in the low $30ks. Plus there is 0% financing if you want that too.

thanks for the info, anyone else have any info? I would also like to know how you guys (those people that have the SS) feel about the SS ? Any problems?

IMO i would wait and see if GM makes the "real" SS that is a short cab 2wd with manual tranny. They have one they take to car shows to tease us with.

Gotta admit that even though I don't like the 03+ body style much, I do really like the SS models. But I've been on a couple of forums and people were kinda bashing on them stating they thought they'd be a little more powerful and fast being an "SS" and all.

I haven't driven one (yet) so I have no idea if their opinions are true or not. But I know if I was to buy one, its performance would have to be worthy of the SS emblem in my opinion. But at the year end and all, I'm sure there are some killer rebates and deals going, and like others noted...the market is kinda in a slump and you can buy trucks cheap right now, and with ZERO financing!!

While I don't own one, I did put a few mile on one. A friend of mine owns the GM dealership here in town and while they were servicing my tranny, I drove theirs for a few hours.

For a truck, it handles very well. Excellent feel and control for a machine with that weight while retaining a great ride. The 6.0 under the hood has plenty of ponies and performs well. The all wheel drive is great as well. While it is no Lightening, slap a supercharger on there and a Lightening may be crying at the end of the track.

Overall, I love the truck and would love to have one. My need for a 4 wheel drive with a "truck" suspension rather than one with a "sports car" suspension is the thing that keeps me from getting one. I don't think the SS would handle the corn fields as well as my 4x4.

As I said before, I think it is a great rig and highly recommend anyone getting one, based on my couple hours of driving one.

While it is no Lightening, slap a supercharger on there and a Lightening may be crying at the end of the track.

In my opinion something badged with the SS emblem should be able to run at least equal with a Lightning. It's suppose to be the bad boy of the Chevy line. To admit it's not a Lightning is just plain disappointing to me, even though I haven't drove one yet.

You may agree or disagree but i think GM went the right route on the SS. With the truck being like it is.. it apeals to more people than it would if it were just a sport truck.. Most people that i know of would much rather build something to be fast than just go buy it straight from the show room.. what fun is that???? The SS applies to families who want a sporty truck while being able to haul around their family or what not.. Slap a supercharger on and your running 13's while still rolling in a head turning vehicle that can haul your whole family around..

Yeah I see your point too. But then again, for the price of the SS, why not just slap in a supercharger from the factory so it hauls the family in style, runs 13's and will smoke a stock Lightning! I dunno...just when I hear SS I think the top of the mill. And even though I agree the SS are very sharp, I would like to think they walk the walk straight from the factory.
