What is this cover and sensor?

I have an oil leak that I believe is coming from this cover and I’m trying to figure out what the cover is. It also has a sensor on it. Its on a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5.3

That's the VVT (variable valve timing) cover.

 

That things needs a wash bad.

Does this truck live at the bottom of a rock quarry? 

 

 

Also a 2015 with 115,000 on the clock.
