Exhaust update

After my local shop showing me the pros and cons of some more expensive setups, as well as letting me listen to longtime customers' trucks with like cat back systems, I opted to step outside the box and go with a brand I have not heard or read too much about on this board.

The system I had installed yesterday is a Goerlich Xlerator. I bet not too many have heard of THAT one. Here's a link

The muffler is a straight through, dual in dual out, that is built like a glass pack and guaranteed for life. I had the shop throw one 3.5" out each side, behind the wheels and I have to tell you, I am sincerely impressed at the report of the pipes. Not much interior resonance at all at cruising speeds, yet an awesome deep rumble at launch, and a perfect report at WOT. Not disappointed one single bit, and encourage those of you out there looking at systems that are so much more expensive to check out your local shops, talk to them about options, and don't believe all the hype some of the top dollar systems tell you. For the most part, the mechanics I have chatted with laugh at the "mandrel bend" philosophy that others use for a selling point. I can't confirm it, but most of them say you have to have a pretty stout supply of HP to get any gain out of a mandrel bent pipe, like 500hp, not that it makes any diff to me.

I am very very happy with the sound and performance of the system, I will post a follow up on mileage and longevity at a later date. Low end torque seems much more responsive.

Hehe, and you're right I've never heard of it. Of course, the most important thing here is that YOU are happy with the system since it's installed on your truck and you have to drive it everyday. I too have had my doubts about mandrel bent pipe, and have heard a few "old timers" report that higher HP is required to see the true benefit of it. The thing that really caught me by suprise is that you said the low end IMPROVED!!

Most are saying they are happy to keep it even, and not lose it. Again, you IMPROVED it! I think that's impressive by itself. Of course, I like the look of rear dual exits out the back, but behind the wheels wouldn't be much different I wouldn't think. If you can, post a sound clip of the new "tunes". I know I'd like to hear it.

Just wanted to post an update on the mileage factor of my new exhaust. It seems to run about the same or a little bit better, using the same Texaco gas I have always used, I am getting about 130 miles per quarter tank, and have not run it dry yet. Not bad at all in my book. It's winter here in Idaho and I am still looking for reasons to get out the door at lunch and just drive around with the windows down, let alone get on a freeway on ramp so I can get some WOT time.
