Foreign Surburban

Very sad. To get an American built auto these days, you need to buy a Toyota, Honda or BMW. Toyota is built 100% in the USA and are even going to race in the Craftsman Truck Series next year.

I have friends with all three of these brands and they are very well built. Not much of the "extreme plastic" that we Chevy's have and therefore not as many squeeks and rattles after a few miles.

If they were not so ugly, I would look at a 'Yote.

Yea but look at the % of US components used in their vehicles. Dont let the built in america fool you. My truck was built in Fort Wayne Indiana (my home state) and i am guessing many of the components are foreign (i know the leaf springs are stamped made in mexico). We were looking at a 4 runner a few yrs ago and it was 75-85% (forget offhand) foreign components.

There is no high volume production vehicle available in the USA that is 100% USA.

Nothing really is.

Even food. Next time check where the fresh produce is from during winter. Meat is often from non USA origins.

Check anything in your household. Most have "foreign" content...what is foreign these days?

Your fuel is not from an USA oil well either, it's foreign oil well.

GM owns Fiat, who owns Ferrari.

Ford owns Volvo, Jag, LandRover, etc.

Shrinking world we live in...

:D:thumbs: yep you might wanna be careful with a vehicle built in mexico there might be a person stuffed under the dash

LOL!

The Ranger was made in the Twin Cities Ford plant, but the transmission is made by a Japanese company (Mazda). The old Ranger also had a Japanese transmission (Toyo Koygo).

I wonder what the world would be like if every the populace of every country only bought products 100% resourced, refined, manufactured, assembled and marketed within their own respective countries?

The global economy would not exist and we probably would not have a standard of living as high as it is.

Don't get me started on politics folks!

This thread could be a record breaker if we have another "politcal debater" signed in here!!

It's not about politics, but all about politics...

Really about business, which can not be discussed in a global sense without politics. Hand in hand. Trade sanctions, tariffs, etc.

Business in that everyone here looks for best price. Very few have the luxury to buy anything without checking/comparing prices.

If your business is losing ground to another and find that they have lower cost basis by going off shore, you will too. Look at Levi, they were one of the last to keep factories in Calif, now they have closed all and moving to south USA, but soon will also be going off shore to keep competitive.

Not by choice. Driven by the common person on the street. The buyer, the consumer.

Politics in that some countries have very poor regulation. No unions to drive up the wages, benefits, etc. $2-$3-$5-$??? bucks for whole days work.

Is it politics? No, but yes in the end it is...

I know this very well. Laid off over 2 years ago. Computer industry. Most of the work is going off shore in high tech too. India, since they have the highest college grad percentage in this industry. Plus very low wages. It will turn, and they will unionize, wages will go up, living standards will go up, but takes time.

Hogwash.

"Some" Toyota's and Honda's are made here, most certainly not all, and for the ones that are made here, that does not mean that the actual origin of many of the parts is US.

For the record, most BMW's are NOT built here.

Many Silverado's, Suburbans, Tahoe's, etc, ARE US built. Some Silverado's come from Canada. Some Suburbans and possibly some Silverado's are from Mexico.

Dodge Rams are built at plants in both the US and Mexico.

All Lincoln Town Cars, Lincoln Navigators, T-Birds, Mustangs, Jeep Wranglers, Chevy Trailblazers, F150's, Corvettes, all Cadillacs (except the rebadged Avalanche and possibly the extended full size SUV), Buick Park Aves, Buick LeSabres, Pontiac Bonnevilles, etc, etc, etc, ARE MADE IN THE U.S.

Also, I believe that all Explorers, Expeditions, & Grand Cherokees are US built.

Maybe semantics, but let's be clear.

Built, assembled.....means put together

Content....means where the components used to assemble came from.

MADE IN THE USA....does this mean assembled in the USA, or that content is 100% USA origin? Used to mean 100% of contents is of USA.

Personally don't think anything automotive assembled in any country is 100% of that countries origin. Why there is labeling "percentage content" or "percentage origin".

Anything petroleum based is NOT USA content. Oil well source was outside USA. Tures are over 50% petroleum based and the rubber itself is not USA origin. All of the plastice, vinyl, rugs, sound insulation, wiring insulation, etc has large percentage petroleum content.

The brands/models/etc you listed maybe 100% assemblied in USA, but not 100% USA content. About the only country that can say that is PRC (China), as they still do have poticial control (suppression) to dictate where their materials/components/etc come from....but even they will have problems claiming 100% soon.

What does it all matter. Do you really think that because 20 to 30% of out trucks may not be american parts/built it really makes a difference. Get your heads checked. Just messing with ya. But seriously. In a few more years Caucasions will be the biggest minority in the US. Right now if you count all Latino originated people we are the minority now. Times change and technology gets better. No matter where it is or from.
