2000+ suburbans 2500 / 1500 milage

What are you suburban guys avg. in fuel mileage 1500 or 2500? My buddy has a 1500 2001 & says its a GAS GUZZLER- I say no way....I'm curious about the 2500s??

The 2500's would have the 6.0L as the standard engine. I would think they would be about the same as my truck, if not a little better...

10-11 MPG's in town, and 16 MPG's on the highway.

I wish I would get 16 on the highway. I have 2500 Yukon XL with 8.1ltr. The best I have gotten is 13.7 and that was driving with the cruise on 60. The faster you go the more fuel it likes. Usually never drops below 12.5. But I didn't get it for the gas mileage. I sure do like the power. First vehicle I have ever owned that will actually gain speed going up hill without shifting out of overdrive and with the tow/haul off with snowmobiles on the trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just bought a 1500 with the 5.3 with 46000 miles on it and with about 80% highway driving it got right at 19-20 mpg.

15+ on the highway at 75mph in the wife's 4X4 2500. We didn't buy it for the mileage!

Not comparing apples to apples.

2500 has larger: frame, tranny, diff, drive shaft, suspension, radiator, alternator, etc

All weighs more and why a 2500 sits about 2-2.5 inches taller than 1500, both in stock form.

Also why a 2500 weighs more than a 1500, by about 1K lbs if you include a bib block.

My 1996 GMC 3/4 ton Suburban K3500/7.4L/4.1's gets 7-8 mpg towing +8.5K lb boat/trailer from sea level to +6.5K feet driving VERY HARD. City is approx 10-11.5 mpg and highway 12-13 mpg with occassional 15.4 mpg pure highway (get often enough to know not fluke...and would love to find out what was different about those runs to duplicate).
