What Do I need to Get some Bass?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm new to the list, but it looks really helpful!

I have a 03-GM-Sierra-Reg-Cab and I want to improve the stereo, I wanna stay with the factory radio for now just because of the extra functions it has and for warranty reasons. But I wanna add some bass, i don't want any huge bass just something to make it sound nice. I have looked at the Kicker 10" L7 solobaric sub, but is that a little big? Also what kind of wattage can i run off the stock alternator and battery? Thanks so much

You want more bass, you will have to add an amp.

If you don't want huge bass, stay away from the Solo-baric. Those things go huge, and needs gobs of power.

If you just want to get some decent thump, get a 8" or maybe a 10" Bazooka tube.

You can get one with an amp built in, they are (relatively) easy to wire up to the factory system, and will add a lot of bang-for-the-buck.

Or you could go with a couple of 8" woofers in truck boxes, and a seperate amp. This will be alittle more expensive.

Neither will void your warranty either.

Oh, and I have around 1200 watts in my 02, running on the stock electrical system, so you should be safe with your battery/alternator.

Hey Thanks for the help

I was thinking of maybe one 10" behind the middle seat in my reg cab. What would you recommend for this application. I looked at this solobaric, that is why i mentioned it, i want a box like that with the speaker protected.

I want to install it myself, because i like to do my own work on my truck! That solobaric may be too big, but i want a box like it!

Thanks so much

Crutchfield is down right now for some reason.

I do know that in the reg cab trucks that I have had, there is plenty of room for two 10 inchers, and an amp.

But two 10" subs are pretty d@mn loud in a reg cab. I have done it several times, even did two twelves once.

One would probably do it, and still be (capable of) overkill judging by your description of what you are looking for.

I would go with either:

2 8 inchers in seperate boxes, with a seperate amp

-boxes will cost around $100-$150 OTD for both.

-Amp....Well that will be anywhere from $100- $100...Depending on your taste.

-Or-

One 10" Bazooka tube with built in amp.

-Will cost around the same, but will be a little easier to install, not to mention remove.

Not that amps are hard though. :shakehead:

Easy money. I upgraded my deck to a high powered deck, no worries if all you want to add is bass, just add an amp and a bazooka. I have had my 10" bazooka for 20 years, yes they have been around that long, and I have had this one since my thumping Scirocco in high school. Added a 500W amp to drive the tube and she's still thumping.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ya i really like the idea of the basslink, but i cannot fit it behind my middle seat and still be able to flip up the middle seat according to the dimenisions on the infinity website. So i wanna build a box for that...have you the dimensions for that.

Thanks
