I am in the market for a DVD/CDRW burner. I need to contunue the down fall of the Movie/Music/Game industry, and I figure it would help. Just wondering what you guys that have one are using. I am right now thinking about a Plextor px-708A

Anyway...need some opinions., thanks

You can get a nice deal on one here. This is where I bought my newest system from. They've got great prices and excellent customer service.

I think that's the model I have, but I can't remember for sure. I haven't tested it out yet.

Also, I would strongly consider getting a seperate burner for CD's since dual format DVD burners aren't as fast for CD's as a stand alone cd burner.

Just a thought. I've got a DVD Rom, CD Burner, & DVD burner in my system for super productivity.

The only reason that I haven't tried out the DVD burner was because I was too lazy to go and pick up some DVD R's...

Anyone know of a place to get them cheap?

One of my co-workers works at Best Buy and got me a 25 pack for 25 bucks w/ his discount (normally $50). Man, that takes me back to the days when CD-R's were a buck a piece.

Jon, I'm using DVD X Copy and X Copy Xpress. I've only had one write fail so far and I think it was the movie itself, not the software.

This may be one of those softwares that you actually buy :shakehead: , I get tons of updates and just got offered their new X Copy Platinum which is basically all there software in one bundle.

Been grabbing them at Best Buy too, usually 10 at a time. I've tried Sony's and Memorex, but now I'm going to be searching for Verbatim's from now on :shakehead:

I'm looking at there site and what is the difference between DVD X Copy and X Copy Xpress? They both look like they do the same thing to me.

I think I'll have to look into this further this weekend and see if I can't make some back ups.

DVD XCopy will give you the option of copying the whole disc (movie, special features, etc.). XCopy Xpress is just a simple copy of the movie.... no specials, no features.... just put the movie and press play. This usually fits on one DVD, XCopy will usually split it in to two DVD's because of all the extra crap.

I usually use XPress, depending on the movie, I'm not big into all those extras on the DVD.

This is THE only software I found at the time that could copy all DVD movies... even rented, protected ones.

I have Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 as well..... no go, will not copy protected DVD's.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get home and give it a go.

How long does a copy usually take? My DVD+R's are 4x.

Oh, and just wait until you can get the dual layer discs pretty soon (dang, time to upgrade that burner already :shakehead: )

Buy it online so you can register right away.

Xpress Copy usually takes 40 minutes - 1 hour.... reads the DVD then writes it. I think mines only 2.4 write....

Let me know how it works for you :shakehead:

As for a burner, I would recommend the Pioneer A05 or A06. They are great burners for both DVDs and CDs. I haven't actually copied a DVD with my A05 but I have created DVDs using DVD studio pro and the burning doesn't take too long at all for a few gig project. Good luck on it.

I'm downloading the trial version of xpress right now. Says you can make three backups so I've got my sister's copy of Daddy Day Care (yeah, well it was either that or the Lizzie McGuire Movie) in the dvd rom and blank dvd+r in the burner. Gonna take it for a spin and see how it goes.

If it all works well I just have to register it.

I'll check back in an hour or so....
