Got a bugshield? Please check in...

After doing some research, I decided to get a Lund bugshield. I wanted to paint it Onyx black to match, so I went with clear. Finally painted and installed it today, and I must say it came out great. To me, it does not look worse, which was what I was going for. Now the problem...

At any reasonable speed, I now get a horrible racket which seems to be the windshield trim vibrating against the windshield from the new airflow. It is not something I can deal with or get used to. I believe I read where someone else had the same problem, but I cannot find the post. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas? Would it be okay to silicone the rubber windshield trim to the windshield? I can't believe I am going through this just to keep a few rocks off the hood and a few bugs off the windshield.

As a side note, the more money I spend trying to make a vehicle nicer, the more problems I seem to cause. Oh well.

I have no noise from either one of my trucks bugsheilds .

I have heard of the problem though and it has been solved by some sort of tape around the windsheild .

Im sure other members who have dones this will chime in

Yup, had it in my 2002, and now in my 2003. It seems the bug shield disturds the air flow causing a "flapping" of the vinyl trim surrounding the windshield. Using double back tape or any type of sealer will do the trick, or do what I did and take it to the dealer and let him fix it under warantee. Good luck.

We had our dealer install a Lund bugshield before we picked up the Silverado and had noticed the noise. I thought it was coming from these little flaps covering the hood hinges. I can see them flapping around while driving. Today's the day I investigate the source.

The dealer did my shield and this is a documented "issue" many have reported. I had the dealer seal the edges up(tape I think) when I was in for other service. No problems since.

Our Silverado has the bugshield and the windnoise. I don't know if they are related. At around 26k miles, the dealer had a glass guy fix the seal around the windshield. The noise went away until about 2k miles ago, it came back. The truck has 94,000 miles. Have the dealer replace the seal and see if that works.
