You know you might just want to consider hiring someone for about an hour or two .

In this area it actually comes out costing less than renting a peice of machinery.

 

But I would check places like hertz rentals (here the have a place that rents work trucks and equipment) and the caterpillar rental place.

If you were near me id just bring the challenger or quadtrac over and weve have that thing out in a jiffy

Has anybody here ever rented a Bobcat or piece of heavy machinery from these rental places?

 

Isabel left a nice 35" diameter stump in my backyard. Me and my Grandfather are tossing around the idea of renting a bobcat to assist us in getting the rootball out of the ground.

 

Does oneof us need a operator's liscense? Hw much will this setus back?

Former boss rented a Bobcat to do some driveway work a number of years back. There's no special operator's license. The counter guys just kind of walked through the controls and let him try it out in the lot to be sure he was comfortable with it. I'll agree with the previous post- time + effort + equipment = more than hiring someone to deal with it...though rental equipment always is fun

First cost. I can't speak for the others but here it cheaper to rent then to have it done. In '99 I needed my lack inlarged. I was quoted $10k. I rented a John Deer 450 dozer for a week for $1.2k. Add $20 per day for fuel and my time off work and it was in the $2k range.

 

No special licence needed in TX. Don't know about your state? My guess is the further in the NorthEast the more likely to need a licence.

 

I also think there are better tools for the job. Backhoe is the first that comes to mind. Trench in front and back, push it over, cover up hole.
