Mr. Z71 Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 (edited) Vehicle: 2003 Sierra, automatic, column shift. Problem: When shift lever is shifted to Park and released, it does not go all the way forward (toward the dash). I have to push it away from myself (toward the dash) before the shift indicator bar appears indicating that it is in park. There is no resistance when pushing the lever into the park position and the lever moves freely. I assume that there is a spring that either pushes or pulls the lever into the park position and it no longer has the force (has weakened over time) to seat the lever fully in the park position. Questions: Is this how it works and is the spring replaceable by itself or is it part of an assembly that must be replaced? Anyone else had this issue? Edited February 5, 2021 by Mr. Z71
Ian Mills Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 There is a spring that pushes the lever towards the front of the vehicle and it does break. I had one go bad. I think this is the part number for your vehicle too but definitely verify that it fits before you buy it. GM 26034514
GMBoss Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 also here to say similar: spring just failed on me. got it all fixed up by getting oem from this site: https://www.gmpartsprime.com i just had to enter my vin and find what i needed. i was glad it was just something simple and not some kind of huge overhaul... if anything you can use that website to get exploded diagrams and assembly designs to see what specific issues you have too op.
