Dealer constraints on diesels

My dealer told me today that GM had constraints on how many or when they could order diesel trucks (2500HD's). Said there would probably be a 4 week delay before GM even picked the order up, then 6-8 weeks before delivery.

Has anyone else heard of this? I have heard from 1 person who ordered a diesel last week and there dealer didn't mention a delay.

Sounds like BS to me. GM is trying to push the Duramax I doubt they would do anything like that to limit it. But then again I have been wrong before.

I also think this is BS, but could be wrong. The only thing I see that could be a problem would be the switch over to the new LLY engine.

I understand you are just passing on info, but the dealers lie as much as possible to sell. Let me guess, they had plenty of other HD's there without the Dmax?? I ran into this at my dealer, so I went elsewhere and got a better deal.

That is a very interesting site wolfie. What is the deal with Dodge and the cancellation of the 5.9 Cummins for '04. Are they stopping production for the new diesel?

I've never seen this site before. Very cool!

Talked to my dealer the other day and he said that they were told that Chevrolet was putting a hold on their orders for Duramaxes until at least the end of the year, they had heard that the Duramax plant was stopped but didn't know why.. Maybe the changeover to the new engine....

Actually they had 1 other 2500HD CC D/A and it is a 47,000.00 demo,(way more than I want) said they had tryed to do some dealer trades for some Diesels and none of the other dealers will let then go.

Also he does the fleet ordering and had a order from a big company for five 3500's with D/A, and they didn't want to wait so they reordered the 6.0. I am going to call some other dealers near me and see what they say.

I think he being straight up with me because the reason he said he told me was so I would know about the wait. Said as soon as GM gave the a allocation they would order mine first.

This is true. We are the 3rd largest chevy store in the country and are only getting about 10 more in before the end of january.

You may be better off waiting for the LLY anyways. If you don't wait the extra few months for it you may regret it.:D

There is a guy over on dieselplace.com who works in the plant where the Duramax is built. I guess they started building the LLY engine about a week ago. My guess is that until production ramps up to full speed, output from the plant may be slow.

Here's an e-mail I got from a dealer:

Hi Mike :Thank you for your email request, we at Courtesy Chevrolet appreciate the opportunity to earn your business. I have trucks, but none with the LLY diesel engine. Here is the problem, the factory had some issues to deal with and have finally resolved them.  The engine itself is supposed to start being built this week.  But the truck building factory does not start up again until January 5th.  So there are orders in, and they should be the first to be built.  But even with that time frame, we should not start seeing trucks with the new diesel until the end of January, beginning of February time frame.&nbsp

I for one can assure you that the truck plant is running and building theses trucks now and will build through xmas shut down. My plant makes the fenders, hoods and doors for these and we cant ship enough.

I work at a GMC dealership and ordered an LLY the first week of Dec. There are currently limited constraints on colors (only red, black and carbon are available to order at this time). I ordered Silver, go figure

Just wondering...... Is the problem with the HD assembly plant? Or is the problem with the Duramax plant? If I am understanding things right, the 6-sp will only be available with the old engine. If the problem was with the new engine, then could old engines with the 6-sp be ordered right away? ...Rumors....Rumors....

Is it even true that the LLY wont be available with the 6-sp? Anyone know for sure?

I don't know for sure, but I think all the new ones will have the LLY. I think the power is controlled by some computer. The power is only upped in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear on the Ally and stays at the 300/520 for 1st, 5th, and for the 6speed manual.

This is just a guess, but I don't see why they would make two different Dmax options. It's probably easier just to "detune" it.
