Never heard of such a thing on a GM. Ford used to have them in the trunk of cars in the day - in the case of a rollover or hard impact, the switch would open, killing power to the fuel pump.

 

You can just pull the fuel pump relay on a '97 and that will do the same thing. I assume you're asking for testing purposes?
