Is it too much FUEL Pressure?

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500,  4.8 Liter.

Recently I had the Fuels Pump,  Fuel Regulator, Fuel filter changed  (In that order, but in separate visits to the local doctor)

Since the fuel pump I have had issues starting the engine after  short drives..(probably long drives too, I just don't do many of those).   


The scenario goes like this. 
Jump in the truck(cold) start up,  drive 10 miles to a store,  go in,  spend 10-20 min in the store,  come out and the truck wont start.  It cranks fine, just wont start. If try again in an hour it will start (it's cold again).  Also, Shutting off and immediately restarting works fine, it is the 10-20 minute delay that causes the issue.

Now for the question,   After being stranded multiple times (and thinking and tinkering ),  I discovered a work-around (not a fix).   If I pop the hood and relieve the pressure on the Fuel rail by pressing the valve on the fuel pressure test port,  the truck will start, no extended cranking, just fires up as soon as the key is turned.    

My local doctor says that makes no sense, but since this discovery,  it has worked seven times out of seven.  So,  I am thinking my doctor needs to practice more.

Anyone have an idea of which part is defective?????

I wouldn't say it's a issue of too much pressure. You can test that if you want with a gauge, you'll likely find that it's somewhere between high 40's and low 50's at idle and will increase as rpm does.

 

This kinda sounds like vapor lock on the hot start issue.

Vapor Lock... I thought we were past that with submersible fuel pumps... how can I fix that or at least test for that?
