Mine is the same. Yellow pine pollen here in the spring is terrible. -
I used to keep it clean, but now I just don’t care and yes, it’s very dusty. Maybe I’ll get a wild hair and clean it one of these days. -
I would have kept the new one until I needed it.

I think the key point to longevity that may be being missed is the way the vehicle is being used. Long operating times with limited cold starts is one. Sustained speeds is another. Vehicles get better fuel mileage on highways for that reason. -

I wouldn't want either of the 2 new gas engines until the next model year or 2.
