i just buy my first heavy duty silverado, i have felt like i need to push a little more than i considered normal (my previous vehicle was a ranger) my accelerator pedal, and i feel like i can feel a little occasionally when shifting gears … Is that normal ??  I appreciate any contribution from old HD owners, it is my first HD truck maybe it is normal to feel the gear changes and I have to put my foot harder on the pedal to see it advance 😂, but I appreciate your help to remove my doubt

If your Ranger was built in the 80's or 90's, that's going to be a normal feeling. These newer trucks flipped power delivery 180° opposite.

My older cars, even the Grand Marquis with a 140 HP V8 will get out of the hole faster than any truck built since '99 or so. All torque, no HP. All the power in these newer trucks is up top. My 5.3 Silverado doesn't even start to make power until 3k RPM - that's 75% of max on the older vehicles. The Grand Marquis' power signs off probably around 4-4,500 RPM, while the Silverado is right in the meat of the power by then, and continues on to 5,500. My '72 El Camino with the legendary 350 was the same - revving past 4,500 was pointless, since power tapered off fast.

As for the shifting, that's the same feeling I get whenever I hop into anything built after '10 - they are all 6-speeds or more. The transmission just constantly rows through the gears. Big difference from the 2, 3, and 4-speed transmissions I've driven my entire life. The more gears, the more shifts more often.

EDIT - just to add, all these newer vehicles have an electronic "torque management" as well, which limits power off the line (and during upshifts), probably to keep GM's warranty claims to a minimum.

It is the best explanation I could have, I am very clear about everything regarding acceleration, regarding the gear change it is more like a slight jerking sensation, it happens very occasionally and only in the last gear change, but I'm starting to believe which is normal on these trucks with HD transmissions
