So I've owned my 2007 gmc sierra 1500 classic for almost 2 years now and my shifting cable keeps failing I've snapped one parking in a steep driveway. And my second cable keeps coming apart but not snapping. The cable runs from the shifting linkage on the side of the transmission over the transmission case down the side of the frame up through the floorboard on the driver side then up and around the steering collam. I'm so frustrated with it. Besides that she's a good truck but I wish gm made a manual transmission capable with 4x4 because id spend the money on that

Use your parking brake on an incline and let the brake hold it, then place in Park. As for coming apart and not breaking, there may be some little something you're missing when you connect it back together. I've had one to break when it was parked on an incline, not one since I use the parking brake. Do a youtube search on installing a new one and see if you're making a mistake reconnecting it or routing it. That's what I do. Sorry I can't offer more.
