Alcoa wheels & Revos

I've done some searching on the boards but can't find the threads that answer all my questions.

So here goes -

 

I think I want to go with Alcoa Classic in 16X7 and Bridgestone Revos in 285/75s. I'm guessing the 285s will fit better on the 7" rims than on the stockers, right? Will running 285s on these rims be safe at highway speeds? How much will the 285s throw off my speedo and low-end torque? Any idea what the gearing will be with the 285s? I'm running 4.10s right now. Will I have to crank my t-bars? Finally, does anyone know if I can get the Alcoas in a brushed finished (I don't want to look too bling bling)?

Well, I can answer a few.

 

I know BFG recommends at least 8 inch wide rims for 285's, I'm guessing other manufatures do as well. However, I ran 285's on my factory aluminum 7 inch wide wheels for about 15 months with no problems at all and the tread wear was normal.

 

My speedo is right on everytime I go by one of those police carts with the radar that displays your speed. So, either mine was off with the 265's, or every one of those radars are off and just happen to be reading the exact speed my guage says.

 

I could tell a slight loss of low end power, but nothing dramatic in my opinion. I don't haul a lot and only tow a small utility trailer with a couple ATV's on it occasionally, and the truck does just fine. I have the 3.73 gears.

 

As far as cranking the t-bars, I think it's a truck-by-truck situation. I'vee seen some crank them due to minor rubbing, and other put 285's on and not touch the bars and had no rubbing. If you do have to crank them, you probably wouldn't have to crank much.

 

Green keys are 1/2 ton torsion bar keys. They will give your HD a little more lift in the front. Kind of like the 1/2 ton guys switching out to ford t-bar keys. To go along with that, you can add a 2'inch lift block from a 1/2 ton to get some lift for the rear too. I'm guessing you'd need longer u-bolts too.

Alcoas only come in polished finish, unless you have duals, then you pick which sides you want polished (two dished side, two un-dished side). i have a set of classics on my 98 K2500 and absolutley love them. Mine aren't coated so I have to polish them once in awhile just like the big rigs.
