fuel conditioner

my brother in law bought a new 2004 duramax diesel and the dealer told him that he should not use fuel conditioner because it would void his warrenty. Now i don't understand what using fuel conditioner could do to harm this engine or is this dealer just full of crap. i someone could help me with this with some sort of GM service letter or bullition i would really appreciate it.

The dealers always try to scare people to not use anything not made by the manufacturer.If someone used a high quality conditioner I doubt it would harm anything.I haven't put anything but diesel in my 20,000 mile 03 Duramax and it still goes like new.

GM Bulletin #03-06-04-017 states that both Stanadyne® and Racor® fuel additives are approved. The big thing I've heard is that as long as no alcohol is used in the additive, it shouldn't cause problems. However, since GM's own bulletin announces it's OK to use at least certain types of diesel fuel additives, I think they'd be pretty hard pressed to prove a non-alcohol additive caused any damage.

thats what i thought, so what i don't understand is why they would say that it is not good for the diesel. in the owners manual it also states that you should not use conditioner. if GM wanted to make more money then they should contract stanadyne or racor to make conditioner under a GM brand for them and make nothing but money.
