I was having an issue with my 1992 P30 454 TBI based motorhome starting after sitting for a few months.  In the end it turned out to be the hot fuel module that primes the system if it's vapor locked.  I park my MH in my driveway with the fuel tank a bit lower than the front end.  The problem turned out to be no prime function due to a burnt up hot fuel module.  After looking for a replacement, I found that there was no replacement on the market.  This caused me to begin a project that would help me and any others looking for this module.

I started out thinking that I could reproduce the OEM module but discovered that the OEM module had an inherent design flaw that caused them to fry a transistor internally.  I decided to redesign the module using more up to date components.  This is what I ended up with:

I ended up producing the board using a microcontroller to set the timing and an automotive grade relay to switch voltage to the fuel pump.  A Schottky diode in line to prevent reverse voltageThe result was a module that plugged directly into the original housing that had less voltage loss to the fuel pump and allowed for multiple delay times.  O also added an LED indicator to let you know when it was active.  It's been in use now for several months in my motorhome and those of several others that have replaced their OEM units with mine.

I had a number of PCBs produced and have enough components to produce about 10 more units.  I even sourced out the connector and developed a board that I could put in my own housing in case someone didn't have their original housing, or their housing was not in usable condition.

Just curious if there is any need for this module in the general GM community.

I know this post is a few years old. I am struggling with my hot fuel module and keep burning them up. If you have one of your prototypes available, I would love to check it out. I can be reached by email at [email protected].

Thanks,

Brian

The Hot fuel module is still available.  I have two variations.  One is a simple drop-in replacement of the original board but with a newer design.  The other is a plug-in replacement for those that don't have the original housing.

Edit: Brian has just purchased one of the replacement boards and reports good results.  I'll let him talk about his experience though.

Update: Julius has put together a great product. The 12 second timer is perfect, but you can set it to 20 seconds if like the original timing. If you have the old housing all you have to do is pull the old board out and slide the new one in. It was easy to swap out boards (took 15 seconds) and the vehicle started right up. The LED is a nice touch to see when it kicks off while testing things out. They don't make hot fuel modules for our vehicles anymore so this is an amazing and much improved replacement. If you are having hot fuel module problems, I encourage you to get one of his. I am so glad I came across this option. Good work!

Yes, I do have them still.  The item I've produced is the board that goes into the original housing.  I'm selling them at close to cost at $50 shipped to continental USA.

Hello I’m super glad to have found this forum I’ve been going crazy looking for a replacement fuel module.  I even got scammed by a fraudulent website. I am very interested in purchasing one of your drop in replacement boards as I have the black housing still. Can you send me info on how to purchase one from you? My email is:

[email protected]

thanks

I'm another one who's looked everywhere for the fuel pump module with zero luck. I have the original housing, so do you still have the drop in replacement boards? It would be a life saver. Thx.

Mr. 92Landyacht, you seem to have a monopoly in the FCM market. I have searched everywhere for a new module. I am hoping you are still in a position to help me get one.  My email address is [email protected]

Do you still have control boards available? Mine still seems to be functional. However, when I took the dash down to repair mouse damage in the old farm truck I noticed the module gets very warm while the engine is running. Thinking I should replace or have one on hand. Part number 10052973 on a 1989 7.4 liter

I  am also in need of a board.  Currently driving an 89 C3500 7.4.  The  hot fuel module is fried.    If you are still selling the card I'd like to buy one.  My email is [email protected]. Thanks.

    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate.
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
