Can you upload a few pictures of the problem? If you clean your phone camera, turn on the flash, and then post the best 3 out of 5 pictures, then people may be able to offer other solutions or options that you may not have considered.

The bolts are self-tapping and do strip easily.  My plan is to put a Heli-Coil in there when it happens so that the plates can keep coming down for service and get a little tighter.
