DIC

I just purchased my 04 GMC Duramax CC and it was missing two options. XM radio which I was able to overcome with an add on Delphi unit and the steering wheel radio DIC controls. The second was such a cheap option and it seems like every truck I see now has this. My question is there a way to add this without having to take a loan out. My steering wheel needs to be replaced due to flaws in the molding process on one of the spokes so I thought I would pick your brains out there and see if anyone has any info. on this. Also was wondering if 15/40 Delo 400 is the oil of choice for this engine.

Do a search for DIC, going a long ways back and spend some time reading. Lots of messages on this. Basically, if the truck didn't come with the option, you are SOL.

If you are friendly with the service guys and are willing to have your instrument cluster flashed, and then are very good with wiring and reading schematics, then you can rig up a series of switches and get it working.

We've only had one guy who was successful.

Now this is with the '03s and upwards. I also don't have the fully-operational DIC and regret not having it.

I bought the steering wheel controls kit from Jason at www.jpcustoms.com and installed it on my 00 Sierra with no troubles.

Check out his site, he may have 03/04 stuff up.

Ah, I misunderstood your statement: "...steering wheel radio DIC controls". The DIC is the Driver's Information Center and I thought you were installing switches for that, in addition to the radio steering wheel switches. The DIC adjective threw me off. Ah well..........

Actually you were on target. I wanted the steering wheel controls to both access the DIC and adjust the radio. I have written GMC and obviously talked to service and parts at GMC and know one seems to have a clue. This doesn't suprise me though. If this were to happen now it would probably cost $1,000.00 vs. a $ 125.00 list option so I should probably bring closure to this subject and live with what I've got.
