Screen dimming only works in park

I Have a 2018 chevrolet silverado 1500 wt, with a 7" screen, no Bose system. 

 

Dimming the touchscreen in my truck has always worked, but lately I've noticed the screen will only dim when in park. The moment truck shifts into gear, screen goes full brightness. 

Kind of a pain when driving on dark highways. 

Dash and heating controls still all dim normally with knob control on driver's side. 

 

Any ideas?
