4x4 problem (help)

I have a problem with my 4 wheel drive. I used it all weekend up in snow country.

here is the problem: with 4x4 engaged around 1500 rpm, approx 28 mph I get a "growling/grinding" type of noise. it is hard to explain. if feels like/sounds like it is coming from the front diff/drivers axle.

this sound is only made when I let off the gas. it is not there when I am accelerating or holding a steady speed, only when the gas is let off.

I recently had the dealer replace the diff actuator because it was leaking.

all u-joints look good. this is the first time the truck has been used in the snow. and the 1st time the 4x4 has really been used.

I don't know if the problem was there before the lift or not

my truck has the fabtech 8" kit on it, set at about 6.5" (all the way decranked)

the front drive shaft did pull out about 1-1.5" out of the t-case with the lift.

does anybody have any ideas?

thanks for the help!!

Well, I'm definitely *not* the person to diagnose your problem, but out of curiosity, does the shaft have any slack in it? I had one go out in my Nissan pickup and it was doing pretty much the same thing at first. It made a horrible grinding sound when it wasn't in a bind (as it is under acceleration), and after noticing that I found that I could wiggle the shaft back and forth ... LOL, not a good sign!

Anyway, I hope it's nothing serious in your case.
