03 Silverado Engine Knock

I have an 03 Silverado with 5.3 and about 9,000mi on it. I can start the motor cold and it has no sign of a knock but if I drive it somewhere, turn it off for 30min to 3 hours and then restart it it knocks pretty bad for 30 sec to a minute. Has anyone had this problem or heard of any problem such as this. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

"Pretty bad" is significant. Take it in. Hydraulic lifters can drain out with hot oil and be a little noisy so there can sometimes be some lifter noise. But, the "pretty bad" part bothers me.

For reference, my '03 5.3 at 16,000 miles is very quiet at cold or hot.

You should definately take your truck in and get it fixed, don't fall for any of the "that's normal" BS. Brand new truck, either they fix it or buy it back!
