tire size & swirl remover

Recommended Posts

I just got my truck "clayed" ....like a cleaner wax only slightly more abbraisave, to remove scratches. I have very fine swirl marks and wanted to know what the best stuff is to use. I normally use McGuires cleaner wax and then #26 wax but don't know if it will do the trick (truck is black by the way).

Also, I have the factory 16 inch rims with the Wilderness AT and want some new shoes. Can you tell me what the largest size I can get on these rims are? Currently I'm running 265 75R/16.

Thanks guys and Happy New Year

as far as swirls go I use Zaino (Z5 i believe). Its a swirl and fine scratch remover. Works great.

As far as tires go I would say the largest are 285s or 305s. I am running 285s and have been for almost 35K miles without any problems

I can answer both of those:

1. For the swirls I would recommend the Zaino Z5. It does NOT remove swirls (anything that says it removes swirls is abrasive). Z5 fills in swirls marks and fine scratches with each layer you put on. After about 2 -3 coats you should notice them about 80% gone. Please check out www.zainostore.com and also www.gurureports.org for some in depth information around all kinds of polishes and waxes! You will need the Zaino ZFX accelerator. You can read all about the products on the zaino website listed above. All three of my vehicles are dark colors (black firehawk, dark gray metallic silverado and laser red mustang gt) and you will be very very hard pressed to find any scratches or swirls in any of my vehicles. Yes I am a Zaino Distributor, but I have been using the products for many years and I won't sell something I don't 100% believe in!!

2. If your rims are 16x7 you can fit 285/75/16's on there w/o any rubbing or cranking of your torsion bars. I just had 285/75/16 BFG AT TA KO's installed on my 03 4x4 this past Thursday and there are no issues at all and I can tell you it makes a hell of a difference!

I hope the information helped! Take care!!

I replied back to you. I don't have a personal webiste I sell from. I'm only a local distributor in MD. Check the PM I sent back to you and feel free to contact me with anymore questions! Thanks!

For the replacement rubber, may I suggest Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos. Good wet and snow traction, an aggressive tread, and still quiet. 20k on them and going strong.

I use Griot's Best of Show wax on my white truck and Finish First on my black car. With the Finish First, the shine improves with each coat as well as the swirlmarks disappearing with each coat. About three coats a week apart each gives great results. The key is technique more than the wax or polish itself. Apply and remove in straight motions to avoid the swirlmarks and use a microfiber towel.

Like the others, 285/75R16 works fine, and is about the limit.

I've been looking at the Duelers and really like them. Doesn't hurt everyone who has them loves them too so I'm going this week to change my shoes.

Thanks for the input guys.

Bridgestone Revo's are really great tires, the more snow I drive through the more I love these tires.

daxrizo, claying is a non abrasive way to remove surface contamination, think of clay as an eraser for your paint, claying will not scratch when used correctly. The small swirls or scratches can be treated one of two ways. You can use a product like Zaino Z-5 that will cover or hide light scratches, or you can "repair" the scratches with a product like 3M Scratch and Swirl Remover (you can get this product at most Pep Boys stores) The 3M SSR does contain abrasives and is best when used with a buffer, but can be used by hand.
