Another I6 Trailblazer engine problem

Recommended Posts

My parents called me this morning, their 02 Trailblazer is spewing oil all over and something is rattling. It did it while they were warming it up this morning. Thing is, it just turned 37K miles and only had the 36K mile warranty. Any idea's or has anyone heard of this happening before? The dealer is looking at it first thing tomorrow. And to think, they were getting ready to trade in on a new Z71 Tahoe this spring. Chris

geez, the second post in a week about "just over warranty" I6's that are dying!.

Lesson: BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY ON NEW ENGINES!

Was it a demo? If it was, the warranty starts when you

buy it. Say they demo it for 1,200 mi. then you will get

37,200 mi. warranty. If not, they frequently will still

warrant the problem anyway.

Trailblazers sure seem to have lots of problems.

No it wasn't a demo, they had it built with what they wanted. And I stand corrected, it has 36,120 miles on it. The SES light came on when it happened. Still don't know what happened, they didn't talk with the dealer today. My Grandma past away last night. What a day :) . Chris

I'm terribly sorry about your grandma. :)

Just try to get the truck to the dealer ASAP

and maybe they'll still honor the warranty.

thanks, it's sort of a blessing that she is no longer suffering. But has far as the TB, it was an o-ring that goes around the shaft on the water pump. It was completely worn out. It was allowing some sort of oil mixture to leak out and the rattling was from the shaft moving around due to the o-ring being gone. They are fixing it with no problems about the warranty. They said this should not have happened and they are notifying GM, they may send someone down to look at it. In the meantime, they let my mom take an '04 Z71 Tahoe as the temp car. She mentioned she's been thinking about trading in. Nice ride! Chris

Tell them to fix it under warranty then trade it off for a tahoe. much better truck for your money, virtually problem free. Couldnt say the same for the trailblazer.
