TxDoc Posted July 9, 2002 Posted July 9, 2002 http://www.uniontribune.com/news....te.html A piece of a San Diego goalie's finger was bitten off during a melee that erupted in the middle of an adult recreational soccer game Sunday, police said today. Shortly afternoon noon yesterday, authorities were called to Juarez Elementary School in the 2600 block of Melbourne Drive, where two adult soccer teams were playing against each other, said San Diego acting-police Lt. Richard Nemetz. The dispute reportedly started when a referee called a foul on one of the goalies, the officer said. The bleachers cleared and people began fighting on the field. Part of the goalie's finger was bitten off, and doctors were unable to re-attach it, he said. Nemetz said the incident was "mutual combat," so no one was immediately arrested pending an investigation. Little over an hour later, police were called to another soccer game at 45the Street and Logan Avenue, Nemetz said, adding that fighting there was sparked by a similar disputed call by a referee. No arrests were made because the alleged victim -- who was reportedly kicked in the mouth and may have suffered a broken nose -- had been drinking and refused to cooperate with police, Nemetz said.

Maybe he was kicked in the mouth while he had his own hand in it :0
MarkD Posted July 9, 2002 Posted July 9, 2002 Am I the only one that thinks this Soccer BS is getting carried away? What right does anyone have to let a sporting event get them so worked up as to come out of the stands (or stay in them) and fight with someone over a call? Sounds like a few people needed a butt whippin' and got "time-out" instead.

It all starts when parents would show up lit. Beer muscle does strange things to people. One of my hockey games was cancelled due to parents fighting in the stands. Heh, I love playing at Lakeland in Detroit.
