Magnaflow

I am considering replacing the stock muffler on my 2004 Chevy 1500 2wd regular cab/long bed. I want to replace the muffler only and keep the rest of the pipe the same. I like the looks of the stainless Magnaflows and Dynomaxes. I've looked on their sites for a direct replacement but they don't list one. I would like to be able to weld the new muffler in exactly like the old one. The guy at the muffler shop I visited talked about putting a shorter magnflow in and adding a short piece of pipe to make up the difference. I don't care for his idea because he would use aluminized pipe and not stainless since he doesn't carry it.

Has anyone done this before? What part number did you use? What does it sound like? Thanks!

I did exactly what you are thinking about and it droned

bad. Bad enough for me to get rid of it. Another local

shop talked me into a "Vortex" muffler that was about the

same size as the stock one and I'm happy with it. This

muffler (or the Magnaflow for that matter) is not stainless,

so it probably won't last that long. On the other hand,

it only cost $70 installed.
