Weird stuff in the Nissan Titan brochure...

I picked up a Titan sales brochure-there are some strange things in there. Some I'm trying to figure out & some are just plain STUPID!

1. Their offroad package is available for 2wd models. Why bother unless you want it for image.

2. Under the tow package it lists "lower final gear ratio". Fine since a low gear ratio is better for towing. But it goes on to say (quoting exactly), "Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1); similar to a four-speed automatic 4.10:1". WTF? :wtf: Anybody know what that means?

3. The tow package includes an upgraded "Heavy-duty battery" which it says is a 710CCA battery. Since when is a 710 amp battery considered heavy-duty? My F250 comes with a 750 amp standard. Just thought that was a little funny.

4. It says under an "*" for the 5.6L engine that premium fuel is required. Does that mean you have to buy the higher priced 93 octane? What a joke that is if so. It looks like some of the early buyers of this truck are getting mileage in the 10 to 14 range, which is what I and others are getting with V10s and 8.1Ls in 7000lb trucks. Ford requires 87 octane in the V10. The extra cost for 93 is really gonna hurt if those mileage numbers are right. :smash:

5. The rear cab area comes with standard grocery hooks! Maybe they'll start putting white-laced doilies on the head rests as well!

And a few things I like about it:

The 12v power point in the bed near the tailgate.

The manually-locking electric rear diff (sounds nice!). I would pay good $$ for a factory-installed manually-engaged rear locker in any pickup I buy. :smash:

The "Canteen" paint scheme. This color is shade of green but looks kind of like a military flat olive scheme. Looks good.

Interesting stuff ... I think my fav feature is the fact that the rear doors on the ext cab models fold back almost flat against the truck. That way you can get those groceries in there a little easier to make use of those grocery hooks!

The 2wd off road package is pretty lame. I've been calling it the poser 4x4 option. Toyota started to do this a few years ago with the Prerunners. It is sort of sad because Chevy will start to offer a Z71 2wd soon too.

The 5.6L requires premium to get the HP/Torque numbers, but does not require premium. Running on regular, the HP is dropped by 10-15 HP and the torque is reduced by 15-20 ft-lbs. I remembered reading about this in Wards or Automotive Engineering some time ago.

It does have some neat ideas, but I wouldn't buy one.

I do have to say that the role down back window is cool... Everyone like a rear slider but how about having that whole d**n window go away? Nice eh...

Then you can keep your milk cool on those grocery racks!!

I knew a guy that had one of those roll-down back glasses about 10 years ago. It was an aftermarket part that an upfitter installed for him. Cost him a mint and a half. It was really neat, but he lost ALL of the space behind the seat. Looks like Toyota figured out a better way to skin it.

Yeah...Backglass rolling down would be cool, literally.

Just get an avy, sure it takes a minute to pop out the back window, but it is great in the summer w/ all five windows down.

The 12volt power is a great idea, I don't know why all vehicle mfgs don't do that.

A 2wd Z71 is worse than having a ZR2 Tracker option.

That's pretty much BS'ing there MPG's, HP, & Torque ratings if they are based on premium fuel.

Actually I've thought about buying a avalanche....

Just need to decide what is important in my life right know...
