7500 mile service

So far I've changed the oil and filter a 2K and 7K.

 

I see in my service booklet it calls for a 7500 mile service.

I was thinking of replacing:

Front Diff fluid

Transmission fluid

Transfer Case fluid

Rear Diff fluid

 

I have the 4l80 tranny, NV 263 transfer case w/Autotrac, and the 14bolt 9.5" rear end with locker. Still don't know what the front diff is though.

 

What special oils/fluids will I need (If any) for this.

Well, here is what I used. I should let you know I also run commercial equipment so have a lot of 5 g pails of commercial gear lube in my shop. I'll let you know appropriate substitutes at the end.

 

Front Axle: there is a TSB warning to use a synthetic GL-5 rated 75W-90 gear lube in the front axle in cold climates. I've run Mobil MobilLube SHC 75W-90 in my front axle from new.

 

4L80E: drain the pan, drop the pan (Careful with that shift bracket!), change the filter sock, check the pan magnets for anything funky. Otherwise, clean the pan, use a new gasket, and reassemble. Refill with Mobil 1 ATF.

 

AutoTrak transfer case: Drain and refill with the proper AC Delco AutoTrak II fluid ONLY. I can't emphasize this enough: ONLY use the special AC Delco fluid! It's blue, like a Smurf, and contains the proper additives for the clutch pack inside your Autotrak automatic transfer case.

 

Rear axle: you must use a synthetic gear lube rated GL-5 and certified for use in Limited Slip applications. The RPO G80 "locker" uses clutch plates. The dealer stuff works but cripes it's like $25 a quart. Use something like Amsoil or Mobil 1 Gear Lube

 

If you want to use a synthetic in your front axle, and I would even if I didn't live in a cold climate, feel free to use any 'ole synthetic GL-5 gear lube. There are no clutch plates in the front axle. I realize you might have a hard time dealing with Mobil MobilLube SHC 75W-90, since the smallest container the stuff is packaged in is a 5 g pail.

 

Note: never, EVER use a commercial synthetic gear lube in any axle with the G80 or with a limited slip! The commercial stuff certified to extended warranty/extended drain for Eaton Dana HD axles will cause the clutch plates to slip and glaze.

I went and got the 7500 mile service done at the local dealership but now at about 10K I want to change all my fluids.

 

At pep boys I can get the:

 

Mobil 5w30 synthetic motor oil

Mobil synthetic ATF

Mobil synthetic 75w-90 front diff oil

 

and then at the dealership I have to get:

the autotrak II fluid

&

the addative for the rear diff. (G80 option)

do I use the mobil 1 syn rear diff oil or something else?

 

Also I don't know how much to buy of the diff fluids and tranny. help?

All this at 7500 & 10,000 mi. Are these fluids being changed at this low mileage because its the first time or are they changed this often all the time?

Would anyone know the best way to get all the old tranny fluid out and putting synthetic in, like a flush, without taking it to a shop?

At the 7500 mile service the fluids were checked and topped off if needed.

I wan't to change over to synthetic oils (personal preference) and cycle-out the original fluids.

 

This will be my third oil change, first to full synthetic.

The rear differential G80 in your vehicle does not take an additive. The dealer will sell you the proper synthetic to fill it up or use 75W90 Mobil 1. If you check with Mobil 1 I don't think you will find that they have a product that they recommend for the rear differential that meets GMs specification 9986115 or crosses to GMs part #12378261 ( Part # from my manual - see sig). So I guess that means you are on your own if you use Mobil 1.

 

The capacities I have are from Amsoil so I am not sure if they are 100% correct but should be.

 

4L80-E (Total Fill ) 14.0 Quarts

4L80-E (Initial fill - Sump) 7.7 Quarts

Transfer Case NV263 4.0 Pints

Front Differential 3.6 Pints ( it is a 9.25" I believe)

Read Differential 9.5" 14 bolt 5.5 Pints

Engine 6.0L V with filter 6.0 Quarts
