gas tank

Have a GMC 2500 4x4 Xcab short bed. Has a 26 gal gas tank that's always thirsty when I travel any distance. Wonder if anyone know of a after-market tank that is larger. Went to several (transfer-flow and others) that can't do the 2500 because it's too low (?) ... and needs a 2500HD. the 2500HD has a 2" lift kit ( I think) that gives enought clearance for the 45 gal tank. Can I just lift the 2500 4x4 with the 2" kit and then fit the 45 gal tank. Or, is there more to it??? thanks B

You could always add an "in-the-bed" tank...

I don't know if a body lift would be enough because I don't know how the new replacement tanks attach to the truck.

I travel with a truck camper on the back when I go camping. So, the in-bed model won't work. The manufacturers say the new gas tank will fit the 2500HD, not the 2500. (2003 PU)

The only difference I think between them is the lift... because the 2500HD needs height to allow for Diesel option and the Allison tranny... So, if that's true (and I can't seem to get an answer from Transferflow or GM) then a simple 2" lift will allow the larger tank... just trying to find out if anyone knows for sure...

It is possible that the difference is the rating on the EVAP system. Check the sticker under the hood. It will show a maximum tank size that system can handle. The number of gallons given is typically larger on a heavier truck.
