I have a 2002 Chevy 1500hd 6.0 4l80e I just replaced the output shaft seal and it’s still leaking I was looking at today again the drive line have play moving up and down. What would cause this ? Drive line isn’t in all the way ?

Worn tailshaft extension bushing or bearing.  Could also be a bad yoke.

Okay thanks for the reply ! Would any of these issues require to open the transmission itself ?

This transmission was rebuilt the only that wasn’t touched was the yoke

I don't think so?  The rear extension would have to come off.

I'd like to hope they re-did the rear extension with new parts.

Could be the splines are worn, check the "tube" part of the yoke for a groove the seal lip would have created, it happens on the front end of crank shafts; the seal cuts a groove in the end of the crank shaft, the fix is generically called a "speedy sleeve" but a yoke with this issue would just be replaced.

If there is any doubt about the condition of an O ring replace it; they are cheap and it's good insurance. Take the old O ring to NAPA (NAPA because they have them, other more "retail" auto parts stores don't keep an assortment of O rings and can't match a part, they GOT TO have a part number) and have them match it up. if the O ring comes in a box, fold the box up and keep it with the papers for your truck, that way you'll have the P/N on hand.

Isn’t this sleeve suppose to be inside the housing ? When I pulled the housing off I didn’t see it in there
